We regularly supply laser components to clients who use lasers in many different ways. These might be for Medical or Cosmetic use, Gas Lasers, Semiconductor lasers, or else used in machine vision, bio-technology, or manufacturing.
Typical optical components used in laser applications are windows, lenses and mirrors. Because laser wavelengths can be into the infrared range (IR), materials such as Zinc Selenide (ZnSe), Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (YAG) and Sapphire can be used.
Transmissive optical components used for laser applications have to have a very high surface quality and are usually coated with optical coatings that have a high Laser Damage Threshold (LDT). AR coating are usually centred around the pump wavelength of the laser and have very low reflection values (e.g. R<0.2%).
Mirrors used for laser applications are typically dielectric mirrors. The advantage of a dielectric coating over a metal coating is the dielectric coating can be designed to have much higher reflection values at set wavelengths and made to have higher LDT.
